The House of Commons has just declared a “climate emergency” with a kooky motion spearheaded by Canada's environment minister Catherine McKenna.
McKenna's motion called on the government to acknowledge “that climate change is a real and urgent crisis, driven by human activity, that impacts the environment, biodiversity, Canadians' health, and the Canadian economy” and that “Canadians are feeling the impacts of climate change today, from flooding, wildfires, heat waves and other extreme weather events which are projected to intensify in the future.”
The House of Commons, without Trudeau present — he was partying in Toronto, celebrating the Raptors — voted to declare “that Canada is in a national climate emergency which requires, as a response, that Canada commit to meeting its national emissions target under the Paris Agreement.”
But is this enough of a so-called “emergency” to inconvenience McKenna and make her set aside some of her taxpayer-funded luxuries? Not at all.
Today, I’ll show you, thanks to the great work of Blacklock's Reporter, how McKenna was cruising around in a chauffeur-driven ride to attend climate change meetings, just as Canada was spiraling into her alleged extreme weather doomsday.
And as for Trudeau, he was so concerned about McKenna’s impending weather doomsday that he wasn't in the house for the vote because he was taking private transportation of some kind to Toronto and back to celebrate the Raptors.
But whatever Canada is facing, if indeed we are facing actually anything, well it can't be too much of an emergency since the people who keep telling me there is one aren't acting like it - yet again.
The author of the motion to declare a quote-unquote climate emergency unfolding here in Canada really likes her chauffeurs.
One of her chauffeur drives included a 400 km round trip from Ottawa to Montreal to attend a McGill University seminar on “challenges and opportunities of acting on climate change.”
McKenna wants an ever-increasing tax on your family's minivan but I guess someone has to pay for her chauffeur.
