Re: results from the long lost cabo breast cancer trial finally published

interesting - thanks...

yes, I remember the issue of bone scan measurements as being some kind of artifact raised by some - probably on BMY, etc.'s payroll....   The only other drug I know of that caused bone mets to disappear was Roche's B-raf inhibitor for metastatic melanoma, which came before cabo results and was never questioned as it correlated to PFS and OS.  Also, pain relief was so pronounced I remember MMM or Gisela mentioning it presents problems running a masked, randomized trial because oncologist quickly know which patients were receiving cabo because they started feeling so much better and many stopped taking opioids.  That, of course, set up COMET2 expectations but EXEL rushed it and went against FDA recommendations for a SPA and didn't really understand the responding patient populations....

yes, the good Dr. Smith was also a coauthor on recently published breast cancer trial.  Wondering if COMET failures played into delay on publishing/analyzing breast cancer results - that and the controversy around bone scans...  really interesting that they finally got around to publishing the data - but why now?  It's not unusual for companies to publish old data as a reward to in-house scientists - publications are critical for individual scientist's careers, even if the results are not successful.  But this looks to be something different entirely since bone met resolution corresponded to improved overall survival
