The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a poor 53-82-165 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose four points to 529 and polished diamond prices fell 0.1 per cent. Ken MacNeill and George Read's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) continues to trade busily in the wake of word that Rio Tinto has exercised options to earn a 60-per-cent interest in the Fort a la Corne project in Saskatchewan. The move, which triggers the formation of a joint venture, is considered by some to be great news, while others worry that it could prove disappointing to Star. The bulls have it, it appears, at least until more news filters out: Star added another one-half cent to 28.5 cents on 894,000 shares today.
