Re: Working group conclusions from the Yahoo board
Mongolia suffered badly as a Soviet satellite. Corruption, poor public health, catastrophic agricultural failures, rampant alcoholism ...
According to the World Health Organization, Mongolia has the world’s highest rate of liver cancer, as well as the highest mortality rate from the disease. Each year, liver cancer and liver cirrhosis account for 15% of all deaths.
That’s a lot of vodka getting swigged by a significant portion of the populace.
Their politics and the scheming dishonesty is of course hurting them more than they probably understand, they are so far behind other countries that have emerged from the former Soviet bloc in economic development. But have some pity, the addiction is a sign of self-medication and a lot of inter-generational suffering. Drives me crazy to see great opportunities squandered AND screw my investment in their country over at the same time, but still pulling for them to do the right thing.
As for the working group, that is not the mainstream government position, it is a splinter group of silly political opinions, more of the same old rehash by opportunists trying to get the public whipped up about some fantasy they have been exploited. They wouldn’t even have a project at OT if it wasn’t for foreign risk takers taking a chance on wildly difficult exploration in a remote and risky location, not to mention their political instability.
Goes to show how ETG needed a big player like RioT to come in and stabilize things with influence from the IMF, World Bank, multiple government export loan guarantee agencies, etc.,. Even if we live in fear of now being screwed over by Rio as well.
