Re: Investor who called coronavirus collapse: Stocks aren't even close to a bottomYour HIV point ignores the point I made to make another. 1. Some viruses are, so far, impossible to make a vaccine for 2. Some illnesses like flu, mutate enough so as not to allow old vaccines to work on the new form Covid19 does mutate and has already, but not much yet. Only time will tell if an enduring vaccine for all current forms can be found, proven, manufactured and given to something approaching 7 billion people. In addition it is not yet know how long immunity (natural from having the disease or artificially produced) will last. There are cases of reinfection of people who had gotten over it. We agree on your point that drugs that can make you less likely to die is possible. With Covid19 this is mainly the viral bilateral pneumonia and secondary bacterial pneumonia. There are promising drugs that may be able to be proven to reduce or stop the cytokine storm and the formation of the thick fluid that clogs the lungs. I actually have a position in one of the companies who have a potential treatment, in theory. If you can eliminate the pneumonia you eliminate the need for so many hospital beds, trained staff and ventilators. Death rates and the need to triage could be reduce or eliminated in adequate health systems. Everyone would like to see these drugs approved by the end of the year, but then it is going to take a whole lot of time and money to make enough of it to distribute and use around the world. The Market is another story. |
