GM's EV strategy is probably a good one for two reasons:
- For higher end vehicles, the EV premium is a smaller percent of the vehicle price, so an easier sell, also as EV buyers and high end vehicle buyers are both on the higher end of the income spectrum, there is probably a good sized intersection between the two customer groups.
- Not competing head to head with Tesla with similar vehicles is wise. For a long time, the Prius brand captured most of the HEV market. Tesla is in the same position in the BEV market. So, best not try to offer a product that competes directly with a Tesla model.
