Re: Deep Decarbonization of the U.S. Electricity Sector: Is There a Role for Nuclear Power? Trouble is that new plant nuclear costs are nowhere near $76/MWH. The UK govt guaranteed the Hinkley plant $120/MWH. EDF, the French company building the plant, is on the hook for massive cost overruns - cost is $22 billion last I looked. The nuclear industry has to lower costs and move to smaller scale modular construction if it is to survive and be useful in the decarbonization push. |
