this kind of thinking is what created the student loan mess to begin with...   it is not the pay or not pay for secondary education, it is the degrees being pushed by the universities that do not have a market...   there should be more students diverted to trade schools that would be more productive...   but yeah, trades require a lot of work and degrees that pay handsomely like science and engineering take effort and diligence...   qualities many students dont have...   look at Gates, Zukerberg...   dropouts and highly successful...

 

as for investments on the future, free primary and HS educations are lousy in the US...   just look at the results compared to the rest of the world...  reason why we home schooled our 5 children...
