Re: Su hit it out of the ball park. ----W

"You must enjoy swimming in the tailings ponds, some of which are the size of a Hawaiian island."

Must be the two smallest of small Hawaiian Islands, of only 70 sq. miles and 45 sq. miles. People make the Hawaiian Island comparison to make the size seem big as the big islands are hundreds of square miles. Truth is the tailings ponds (of which there are a number, total less than 85 sq. miles even by the largest estimates. And even the tailings ponds with be reclaimed someday. Now if you really want to complain about irreversible harm to the environment consider that on average 3,000 square miles of forest and farmland is converted to urban area in the USA alone ever year and it will never be return to its natural state, it is just gone due to population growth.

Yet another example of environmentalists focusing on the wrong issue, 85 squares miles of tailings ponds over a 50 year period versus the permanent loss of 3,000 square miles of nature each and every year in the USA. The shame is the environmentalists focusing on the wrong issues allows the real issues to simply spiral out of control while never being addressed.
