Great post, I am with you from the technical and
cost/benefit points. However, these
issues are secondary, as the whole EV process is mainly politically driven with
some people buying status toys (like luxury cars or expensive watch) or
following the trend.
True believers or politicians (most are lawyers or have
liberal art education) will not be stopped due to some peculiar technical
considerations like math & physics. We
do not need any examples, but I just mention nuclear industry, fuel
reprocessing, environmental impact process, pipelines, oil by train, resistance
to new transmission lines… They have multiple solutions in their toolbox to
address all issues you listed, e.g., tax, regulate, ban, subsidies. Do you remember “cash for clunkers”, so the government
will buy all old EVs for some ridiculous amount.
I am a strong believer that the only way out is through “pain
and suffering”, unfortunately.
