This is a lopsided conflict and Iran has the better cards.
The U.S. has feckless allies (SA, UAE), a ball-and-chain relationship with the most hated country in the region, a President who is overly concerned with the stock market, and a population that will scream bloody murder if the price of gas goes up a buck and will react in shock and disbelief when Iranian suicide attacks target U.S. ports and facilities.
Iran has fanatically determined allies, a government that is in firm control, a population which is inured to hardship and which will consider enduring even more hardship as a patriotic duty, and 2500+ years experience of "meddling" in the Middle East, a region they view as their front yard.
