I think that is one of the best contrarian statements I've come across in along long time.

 

I used to work with an older Geologist here in the WCSB and then for a while over in Albania. He had a great sense of humour and is the same vintage (about 10 years my senior) as my good Mining Geology friend The Zimbabwe Kid. One of his great rhetorical tricks after patiently and very carefully 'splaining his position on some issue or another - he would end his thesis with a carefully measured pause - and then drop the universal disclaimer to all he had said before - "...or not!"

 

I think that it is probably the most healthy attitude anyone can have in this life - the ability to laugh sometimes at their own hubris - and the understanding that we can all be mistaken (or perhaps "misinformed?") sometimes...
