Pinnacle to debut bladeless “knife” to fight cancer** Pinnacle's CK is Pennsylvania's 4th, not 3rd. PA's next CKs are Bucks County Specialty Hospital in Bensalem and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. http://www.centralpennbusiness.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=85595&catid=34&Itemid=16 CPBJ Daily December 28, 2010 By Paula Holzman Harrisburg-based PinnacleHealth System is slated to become only the third facility in the state to offer a new type of cancer treatment. The device, known as the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System, will debut when the PinnacleHealth-Fox Chase Cancer and Imaging Center opens, slated for early April. The center originally was slated to open in 2010, but changes to the third floor pushed the opening to 2011, said Betsy Kopp, a registered nurse and Pinnacle’s director of cancer services and research. The CyberKnife non-invasively delivers a dose of radiation to cancerous and non-cancerous tumors anywhere in the body, according to Pinnacle. The center’s opening will consolidate Pinnacle’s cancer services, improve its electronic information-sharing capabilities and strengthen its relationship with Philadelphia-based Fox Chase Cancer Center, Kopp. The center, on Pinnacle's Community General campus in Lower Paxton Township, will have $8 million worth of equipment dedicated to cancer care, she said. |
