Yes it can happen but rarely. I believe the day's range includes all trades of 100 shares or larger. Odd lots less than 100 should not affect the price range.
I have on occasion been in disagreement with a specialist for a partial odd lot fill on a limit order outside the day's range. I asked the broker to require the price be included in the day's range and they were unable to do so but gave me free trades to adjust the problem. These were on 1 lots where the specialist wanted me gone as I was making a tighter market than he was and thought he drive me away by oddlotting and commissioning me away. The broker suggested I use an "all or none" limit order but based on my size orders that would have prevented any fills.
