Provenge competitionRecently this Seeking Alpha article was posted here… http://tinyurl.com/2cryrvs ...that featured this comment: “Provenge® could face competition in a relatively short period of time. Numerous active immunotherapies are in late-stage clinical development for prostate cancer – including a promising off-the-shelf vaccine set to begin a pivotal Phase III trial in 2010.” Provenge followers or longtime bio-investors know first of all that a drug within a year of starting a PH. III trial is still a long ways away from getting a drug to market. In addition, PH III trials often struggle to duplicate PH II results—the list of examples is a long one, but one that is familiar to this crowd is CEGE’s GVAX. The drug referred to in the article is Prostvac. After approval, which we are all hoping will occur shortly, there will be a new crop of people here looking into this company, and the questions will change from “whither approval?” to “How much will they charge?”… “Can they keep up with demand?”….”When is competition coming?” I will attempt to organize some research on these, beginning with the last question.
