"Provenge will be to prostate cancer what aspirin is to cardiology" by tooskookum4uThis oldie but goodie is appropriate to repost at this time as we get ever closer to approval and in view of the post of auh2oman discussing the upcoming P07-01 trial for patients prior to having a radical prostatectomy.... It is very appropriate because it gives us a feel of what Provenge's market could be post approval...

Provenge revenues
by: tooskookum4u 03/06/05 04:33 pm Msg: 85478 of 116952 I guess arguing about 2006 post-approval revenues is progress because it assumes approval based upon everything you have said is bunk. This was going to be my theme next weekend, but why not start early... Provenge will be to prostate cancer what aspirin is to cardiology (and to those who read BTM I came up with that first!) Youngish male has a rising PSA and does not want to do hormone ablation or fiddle with his prostate via surgery or radiation. He goes to watchful waiting now because the benefit versus side effect risk is unattractive for him. Doc asks him if he can stand 6 days of fever and chills over 6 weeks. Patient says. "Duh, yes." Patient gets Provenge. Older single man has a rising PSA and family history of prostate cancer. Decides to have his prostate removed but doesn't want the icky side effects of hormone ablation. Current therapy is removal of prostate and watchful waiting. Doc asks him if he can stand 6 days of fever and chills over 6 weeks. Patient says. "Duh, yes." Patient gets Provenge. Middle-aged active guy has rising PSA and localized disease. Chooses radiation therapy instead of removal of prostate. Also decides to do hormone ablation therapy. After first round of hormone ablation therapy he decides that sucks. Asks Doc if there is anything else. Doc asks him if he can stand 6 days of fever and chills over 6 weeks. Patient says. "Duh, yes." Patient gets Provenge. Man who had his prostate removed and hormone therapy now sees rising PSA. Has no symptoms so he is not eager to have chemotherapy. Asks Doc if there is anything else. Doc asks him if he can stand 6 days of fever and chills over 6 weeks. Patient says. "Duh, yes." Patient gets Provenge. Man goes to see doctor with back pain and urinary problems. Also has a heart condition and COPD. Gets diagnosed with late-stage prostate cancer. Not a candidate for surgery. Not a candidate for chemotherapy. Asks Doc if there is anything else. Doc asks him if he can stand 6 days of fever and chills over 6 weeks. Patient says "Duh, yes." Patient gets Provenge. Man has his prostate removed and has had hormone abalation therapy. He has back pain. Doc prescribes chemo, which he does. Asks Doc if there is anything else. Doc asks him if he can stand 6 days of fever and chills over 6 weeks. Patient says "After watching my hair fall out and vomiting during chemo? Duh, yes." Patient gets Provenge. Each of these men continue getting Provenge every 12-18 months until they die. Are there any revenues here? "Duh, yes." _______________________________________________________________________________________
The only thing that should be cahnged in the above post is to replace 2006 by 2009 in the first paragraph. Otherwise, this is a very relevant classic...Time for you to come back to this board Toos....
