I looked into the author via google and came across his work on a panel at the World Intellectual Property Forum in Sep 2015 (when he worked for Earnst & Young supposedly). There is also an outfit in Korea called Myriad intellectual Property where the author is soon to join.
I don't vouch for his analysis or underlying contended facts (i.e. Quallcom actually raised the issue several months before IDCC which lead to an IDCC patent) but thought it interesting that he chose these two standard 'essential' features (both under IDCC patents) to write about.
