good story from wildfire
There are plenty of bad stories related to our wildfire, like 220 homes destroyed, but here is a good one. My county commissioner is a woman in her late 50's and she is also a volunteer firefighter. When the fire broke out she and two other volunteers were dispatched to the top of the mountain(10000-12000 ft) to do what they could. Because of the rapid movement of the fire the three of them became stranded and cut off from others for two days. After two days they got reinforcements in the form of a group of Mescalero Apaches named the hot shots. This is one bad a$$ group of firefighters. My county commissioner friend watched in awe as this team of native Americans quickly cleared a firebreak. Also in the way was a large tree that had partially fallen. She watched as one of the hot shots scaled the tree with chain saw in tow, topped the tree, and then came down and finished bringing the tree down. The speed and skill that this person showed so impressed my friend that she went over to recognize the talent. When she got there, the firefighter removed their helmet and a ponytail dropped down-this hot shot was a girl !
