SafariI know I said I was gone, but I thought I'd just check back today to see what the thoughts of the board was...
I know that the street doesn't understand it, but I thought you guys would understand the significance of Safari on the PC. It is all about moving the iPhone into the corporate setting. Steve was very emphatic that the Safari on the phone was identical to the Mac and to the PC. Therefore if a company creates a Web 2.0 application you can be guaranteed that it will work identically on all three platforms. So if I have an inventory program, I only have to write it once and anyone in my office can access it instead of a seperate version for the PC and one for the iPhone/Blackberry which may function differently. Any updates to the program are immediately accessible to everyone. This is a bigger deal than downloading a page in 1.2 seconds vs. 2.3 seconds. You see MS kinda wanted to hurt Apple by dropping IE support way back when. This was a way to show they were less compatible. Now Apple is reversing the tables, instead of relying on MS for compatiblity, Apple is setting the new benchmark for compatibility as Safari will be the only browser on Windows, Mac and the iPhone. With the iPhone being the only cell with a full web browser. On a side note, the new ability of .mac to let you access any mac on your account is a godsend for any small business. Small businesses don't want the hassle of setting up ftp servers and the such. Through use of a .mac account you can essentially access your office server from anywhere in the world and transfer files in an encrypted manner! And it is so easy, that you don't need a pimply faced kid to set it up for you. This is one of those tiny pieces that everyone ignores, but has the potential for much, much more. People who are selling today just have no vision, that being said I did feel that the run up to 127 was much too fast (regardless what the bollinger bands were saying). We need time to digest the price increase (however valid it was) that we've had over the past several months. But my play on this stock has been for 140-150 by January, and 180-200 by Jan '09. These seem very reasonable and likely for the way this company is performing. Don't fret the day to day unless you have very short term options, then fret a great deal! ;-) MB PS I would like to apologize to sepod. While I still think the joke you posted was in extremely poor taste, my reaction was poor to say the least. While I was rather stressed out at the time, it is no excuse for my behaviour.
