some hard data projections on the growth of the silver consuming electrical gridthe country decided to invest in ultra-high voltage transmission, with construction due for completion this year,” Tanikella noted China to build most power transmission lines by 2020 - GlobalData May 29, 2015 12:40 CEST by Militsa Mancheva china-to-build-most-power-transmission-lines-by-2020-globaldata Author: Bahador. License: Creative Commons, Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic May 29 (SeeNews) - China is expected to increase its power transmission lines from 1.15 million circuit kilometers (Ckm) in 2014 to over 1.59 million Ckm by end-2020 in line with its effort to connect supply and demand centers countrywide, says GlobalData. This translates into a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6%, which is twice as bigger than the 3% CAGR GlobalData senior analyst covering power, Prasad Tanikella, projects on a global scale. New transmission lines will be needed because China’s power generation capacity is expected to jump by 51% to 2,073 GW by the end of the decade, including 125 GW of wind power additions. “Due to its energy resources being located far from the southern and eastern load centers, and as a logical choice for keeping transmission and distribution (T&D) losses low over long distances, the country decided to invest in ultra-high voltage transmission, with construction due for completion this year,” Tanikella noted. In addition, the country will look to unite its six regional clusters into a centralised system by developing wide-ranging, cross-regional interconnections. China is expected to account for 48% of the total transmission line additions in the top 10 countries between 2014 and 2020, according to the research company’s latest report. India and Brazil will come next with shares of 21.6% and 4.9%, respectively. Overall, GlobalData expects the electric power transmission network worldwide to expand from 5.5 million Ckm of high-voltage transmission lines in 2014 to 6.8 million Ckm in 2020, due to “a rising electrification ratio, the need for new electricity infrastructure and power generation capacity growth”. |
