Re: "In 2011, 14 billion gallons of domestically produced ethanol replaced 13% of oil imports and reduced the nation's trade deficit by $50 billion.
regardless of oils source... some ethanol producers were losing close to 30¢ a gallon for every gallon they produced. Ethanol production is set to decline big time due to the economic conditions brought on by the drought. There are about 19 million barrels in the stockpile maybe 23 days of supply but that number can be slashed in very short order. If push comes to shove lowering the ethnaol content of gasoline for a short while would make sense.... Now there is an embargo of iranian oil.... substituting a few hundred thousand barrels of gasoline for ethanol every day might tip oil prices even higher... In the bigger picture beating the war drums against iran is insanity.... the economy is already tottering over an abyss and the idiots want to run over it because their holy book said they had an empire in the middle east running from egypt to babylon.... some sanity please...
