I reacted the same way to that quote. It's not really true. They don't really own those markets share wise, but they "own" them profit wise which is what a coworker of mine who is an Macolyte keeps reminding me. 7% of phone #s but 80% of profits. They still have the highest share of smart phones I beleive, but it's eroding fast...which is why they starting going legal IMO.
Late Friday, my coworker was going on and on about the demise of TIVO and how Apple was going to take over TV. I asked him about the lower profit margins of TV and he made the point that Apple wants to push everyone to iCloud to leverage TV and get rid of ads. I asked him how Apple was going to get rid of the 75 billion TV ad business and deal with the fact people actually LIKE ads, they just like to pick and choose. No answer.
