(NASDAQ:MU) is currently considering a bid in order to purchase the production plant of Cando in Taiwan. Cando is a large scale touch panel maker for smartphones and other gadgets and currently holds a DRAM production plant in Taiwan, which MU is expected to acquire. According to a source, Powertech technology will be responsible for operating the plant. The production at the plant is expected to start during the early part of the year 2017 and will largely be dedicated to production of mobile DRAM along with testing. The plant is located in Taichung, Taiwan and will be a considerable addition to Micron’s production capacity. It is to be noted that Powertech Technology and MU already have a running joint venture, under which Powertech provides packaging and assembly services to MU in China. The Chinese production facility has been operational since March 2016, while the joint venture was signed back in 2014. On a side note, Micron has still not concluded the acquisition of Inotera and continues to delay the process, however, according to some sources, Micron is planning to finalize the deal in the next few weeks. Following the acquisition, Taiwan would become the major production site for Micron’s DRAM business.
