Gary's latest ployGary's latest ploy
Unable to make an impact on anyone's opinion through his regular writing, Gary Weiss (and his new friend-in-feigned-outrage Sirota) has decided to try and play the antisemitism card for what it is worth and call for a boycott of Overstock. Any serious charge of antisemitism by all rights should be taken seriously and does not deserve to be cheapened by Weiss's self-serving and cynical attempt at a campaign. Will anyone listen to him? As usual, no. I figure he is just out leave an imprint ,some cached record of someone somewhere having leveled such a charge. And accrue to his masters whatever taint value that entails. I think a simple and appropriate response would be to protest any publication that currently accepts his writing. Not boycott, mind you, but let them know what a dark blot on journalistic integrity they have allowed on to their site. I am writing to the three publications below. Bearing in mind that some of these people likely have no idea how despicable a journalist and person he is and how protective they probably feel about one of their own, I tried to keep a lid on my own outrage at Weiss's latest ploy. And also, to keep it short. They can check things out on their own and reach their own conclusions over time if they choose to. I enclosed one of the letters in the hope that some of you may find it a good starting point. Salon.com http://www.salon.com/about/letters/ seekingalpha.com email Editor in Chief Mick Weinstein and other editors at contact-editorial@seekingalpha.com Forbes email editors at readers@forbes.com Dear Editors, This is a most uncomfortable letter to write. But recent events have moved me to contact you regarding a contributor to your publication, Gary Weiss. I have read Salon since its earliest days and was a premium member for some of that time. Nowadays, I use the daily sponsor ads to read your content. In any event: I was dismayed when I found out Gary Weiss had started writing for you. Over time, I had reached my own very negative conclusions regarding his journalistic integrity but wouldn't presume to inflict them on you. You choose the writers and we get to choose what to read. But a recent action by Gary Weiss has convinced me that this journalist so blatantly, so cynically abuses his journalistic credentials that you should be made aware of the situation. Gary Weiss has today publicly called for a boycott of a company based on the content of a personal blog by an employee of that company. I find it the height of irony that a journalist of all people is doing this. What is more, I believe his outrage to be feigned, as his insinuations of offending material have no merit and can only be explained as part of a much larger feud. And the basis of his complaint is an issue that does not deserve to be cheapened so cavalierly. In my opinion, it is a cynical ploy to smear but see for yourself -- here is Gary Weiss's blog: http://garyweiss.blogspot.com and here is the "offending" blog: http://antisocialmedia.net This is part of an ongoing vendetta by Gary Weiss against this company that has become very personal and to many observers has telltale signs of an ulterior motive. If you feel the slightest curiosity -- google is there to help. I will continue to read Salon as I wouldn't think to hold you responsible for content that appears outside your publication. However, I do think that Gary Weiss has been so compromised as a journalist by this personal vendetta that you should be made aware of the situation. Yours Sincerely, Evren Karpak
