Re: My Garand/POWHITECHILD
Man I got in on some of that shoot up the old ammo so we can get fresh deal.
In 1959 I was on my way to Hawaii aboard a Destroyer and as we go close to Hawaii they called General Quarters and I had to tote 5 in shells damm near all day while we and 4 other Destroyers blacked the sky with shot bursts. I can just imagine what it was like in the Jap war and Kamakazies were trying to swoop down and destroy your ass. I was one tired Sailor that night. I asked one of the guys what we were shooting at and he said nothing that they had to shoot up the old ammo in order to take new on in Hawaii. Seemed like a waste to me.
