Re: Why Does EU Consult Microsoft On How Google Should Operate?Okay, I listened to the podcast. I still do not see your reason for blaming Google for everything. 1) Even that podcast did not blame Google. In fact, it did not even blame the internet. 2) Again, Google is not doing anything different than several other companies. The only difference is: Google is winning by offering a better service. What is wrong with that? 3) Blaming Google for internet advertising makes no sense. The websites decide on how much they will advertise, and how they will target their advertising. Google is just one of many services that can be used to help target potential customers. 4) If Google were gone, we would have exactly the same situation as we have today. 5) The world-wide-web made it inevitable that printed news would become less relevant. No reason what-so-ever to blame that on one particular company. What is the solution? Do away with www? 6) What should Google do? Provide a worse service so that one of Google's competitors would (gladly) take Google's place? 7) By your own admission, none of Google's competitors are significantly better about privacy than Google. 8) Let's not overlook the upside of www news handling. How about Groklaw? Groklaw beat the living snot out of the for-profit services when it came to covering the scox-scam, as well as many other issues. 9) Comparing Google's business practices with those of Microsoft is ridiculous. A few things MS does excessively, that Google does not do: a) Astroturfing (including smear campaign against Google) b) Extortionist law suits c) Creating technical barriers to lock out competitors d) In particular: changing document formats to lockout competitors e) Using underhanded tricks to lockout open document formats f) Actively lobbying congress for more visa workers while, at the same time, laying off US workers by the thousands. g) A very big part of the BSA h) Operating by proxies (scox, nokia) to get away with stuff which would make msft look bad, or might even be illegal. i) Supporting SOPA and PIPA Those a just a few things, with a little research, I am sure I could come up with much more. I am not going to tell you that Google is "Lilly white" or anything. But I still think your anti-Google rant is largely unwarranted. All JMHO, of course. |
