Nah. Journalists just want to maximize the money coming into their own hands by ads. More players. Fewer players. Fair. Unfair. Who cares. Whoever greases their palm, went to school with them, or is part of the same old boy network gets service.
More players is good for the long term ads, but who cares about long term. If Microsoft will pay a journalist big bucks today to help destroy competition, making things worse in the long term, they'll take it. If they can become a loyal servant* then even better.
*a real loyal servant -- not just a pretender using that title to gain momentary favor
