Energy News UpdateSeptember 14, 2014 Webster Drilling Nova-1 Where: Waitangi Hill Operator: TAG Oil Programme: At the start of the month the Nova-1 had drilled Waitangi Valley-1 well to 840 metres and was running the 13 3/8 inch casing. The well spudded in late July. TAG aimed to reach its 3,600-metre target depth in about 45 days, but was making allowances for work to take longer in a relatively new drilling region. An announcement is expected from the firm in coming days. Waitangi Valley-1, in PEP 38348, is targeting the naturally fractured Waipawa Black Shale and Whangai source rock formations. The rig was transported to the Waitangi Hill permit, north of Gisborne, following its completion of the Cheal B-10 well near Stratford last month. Chuanqing rig-43 Where: Cheal C Operator: TAG Oil Programme: The Chuanqing rig-43 is stacked at the Cheal-C site awaiting a decision of when TAG will drill its Heatseeker well. Last month TAG reported it had all consents required for the work it plans in the permit, PEP 54873. The Environment Court threw out appeals by Ngati Haua Whanau Incorporated against the work in March. The firm also has an extension from New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals giving it until June 12 next year to commit to drilling. TAG plans to test the second of three potential producing zones within Cardiff-3 before the end of 2014. It expects to spend about CAD $17.3 million in the permit this year. The firm said recently that no further work is planned at Cardiff until after March. Heatseeker is the second of three deep gas wells the firm plans in Taranaki. Drilling of Cardiff-3 finished in late January with all three deep target zones penetrated. The well was fully cased to a total depth of 4,863 metres, with packer and tubing also set inside the casing. |
