Noureddine Bouterfa just returned to Algiers on Saturday, following visits to Qatar, Iran, Russia and Paris, where he met his counterpart from Saudi Arabia Khalid al-Falih, and OPEC secretary-general Mohammed Barkindo late on Friday. Bouterfa said there was a support for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Venezuela, and from non-OPEC countries, "notably Russia," as he outlined. The Algerian minister met in Moscow his counterpart Alexandar Novak on Friday. The two officials talked about bilateral co-operation in the hydro-carbon industry, but also about the upcoming energy summit in the North African country. Algeria is host to an energy summit on September 26-28, during which an informal meeting of the OPEC and non-OPEC producers will provide an opportunity to freeze oil production at current levels to prevent market from drowning in a glut caused by long-term overproduction. |
