Whew! Lost a whole lot of money.....reminded me of the surest prospect I have ever seen.
Back in the early '80s I bought a working interest in a well out south of Abilene in W. Texas from an operator I had known for many years and had made good money with him before on half a dozen wells. This was his dream well. He knew the county better than anyone and had spent years putting the leases together for the surest well he would ever drill.
On the weekend it was to hit total depth, I drove out there from Dallas to see it and even took a girlfriend along to show her a working rig. When we got there the rig was still set up but no one was around and the canvas around the dog house was flapping in the wind.
A few minutes after we got there, a pickup rolled up with the operator. He was literally crying. His dream sure-thing well was a duster.
Yep. It can be a tough business.
