Any of you see 60 minutes last night? the story was about the use of polio virus to invoke a immune response which ultimately cured folks of advanced brain cancer. In early P1 they used a low dose and in later rounds used larger doses.
From those with lower doses they had observed inflammation caused by the immune system. Those with the higher dosing had excessive inflammation to the point there the ladies face looked like a balloon, she ultimately dropped out because the inflammation was so aggressive in her brain, ultimately she passed on 3 weeks later. They have since reduced dosing, also reducing the inflammation. In total it took 3 years to get 100% reduction of the tumour.
Whats interesting about the immune response is that its likely similar to that of RNAi, but in the case of oncology I guess that's totally acceptable..
