"Tekmira has completed the design of a modified RNAi (ribonucleic acid interference) drug that targets the Ebola-Guinea variant, the virus responsible for the worst outbreak on record that has hit hardest Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea."
As everyone knows, I am a financial guy, not a science guy, but is there one other company that currently has any potential Ebola treatment that can say the above? How long ago was the current genome even mapped and identified? Considering this only occurred recently, we are now able to modify our drug candidate to specifically target the current strain.
While it will not be able to be used for everyone due to the lack of medical facilities, we are the only company out there that I am aware of that can modify our drugs this rapidly for the current strain. Everyone else is just throwing everything and the kitchen sink at this current outbreak hoping it will work while our scientists developed the drug to specifically target this strain, WOW. Assuming this continues to prove its efficacy, how many governments will want to work with Tekmira, not only for this horrendous disease but for other potential biological outbreaks.
