Re: Ebola rapid test needed - evolving development
Sierra Leone has formed a new emergency operations center in their capital with the WHO. One of the first points of agreed action was the immediate cessation of ebola testing by Tulane university in the main Kenema medical ebola center. The CDC has been called in for an official review of testing and treatment at the center. Tulane university leads the viral fevers consortium lab that includes Corgenix at Kenema. They are the main testers for ebola having previously been working mainly with lassa fever.
Why the cdc has been called in is not stated. perhaps it is just mistrust but this decision appears to be joint with the WHO who should be able to address these issues. CDC involvement suggests scientific reasons. If this relates to poor or inaccurate practices, cross - contamination, the "missing" pending cases I have previously posted about, unsanctioned research practices, or similar expect this story to become a big issue that may have a broader issue on research and experimental therapies.
