Re: US Farmers In "Dire Straits": Mark ...Hi Mark,
In regard to "dire straits" ... I would hazard to guess that there are many farmers suffering from the decline in crop prices. According to some of what I've read, inputs/seeds and other costs may just be starting to come down ... creating a tad of relief. Hopefully not too little too late. It would seem to me that consolidation in farming is here to stay ... but I have no crystal ball. There was an interesting article posted on the Capital Grains message board by Read2_Learn yesterday afternoon. Google Ventures Invests in Agricultural Technology Startup In addition, I posted this report regarding Precision Farming/Consolidation and such ... as BCG peers into the future of Farming. As always, it will be interesting ... and important ... to see how the agricultural market evolves. There are so many moving parts to consider ... from trade regulations, currencies, alongside all the factors/details of crop management, etc, etc ... not to mention the uncertainty of Weather. I hope Minnesota fairs well this season ... a_mom |
