Re: Cold weather kills 180,000 alpacas in Peru -b9man-correction
Faulty memory. The Great Barbados hurricane hit in 1831, probably a mere cat 4, and eventually hit New Orleans. It was the Great Hurricane of 1780 that denuded Barbados with 200 mph winds, and killed an estimated 27,000 people on various islands. The year 1780 would be, today, a climate alarmist's dream : [1] June 13 the St. Lucia hurricane devastated St. Lucia [2] Aug. 24 a cat 4 hit New Orleans with wind gusts estimated up to 160 mph [3] Oct. 3 Savanna-La-Mar hurricane destroys Jamaica [4] Oct. 11 the Great Hurricane (San Colixto II) begins in Barbados, and goes on to destroy several other islands, while also destroying part of the British fleet [5] Oct. 15 Solano's hurricane destroys much of Admiral Solano's Spanish fleet, before going ashore on the Florida panhandle. This hurricane thwarted an invasion of a British port on the Florida Gulf Coast.
