Had to drive to Maryland yesterday and was listening to CSPAN radio while crawling along at 5mph on the Beltway. There were two segments I heard:
(Segment 1) I think it was the Senate armed forces committee hearing on the budget. Whitehouse proposed cutting defense spending to help balance the budget. I heard McCain (R) and Lindsay Graham (R) each give 10 minute speeches whining about how we can't cut any defense spending because it would weaken our military.
(Segment 2) In this segment I heard majority leader Boehner (R) talk about why he is opposed to raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans (the so-called millionaire tax). He said it would hurt small businesses. When the interviewer asked him to name a small business that would be hurt by this tax he stumbled around and made some vague reference to someone he knows in Ohio.
Question for Republicans: Since the Republican party's primary objective is to reduce the deficit, why are they so opposed to defense cuts and revenue increases? Do they think that cutting NPR funding is the answer?
